Arduino Project 1: Build a Cheap Room Automation Setup

Problem: Create a room automation setup that is cheap and re-uses as much as you can.

Specifications:
Must be under $100 cost. (excluding the cost of the Arduino board and anything you use recycled)
     Must control temperature of room.
     Must control lighting.

This project will be a challenge to myself as well as my readers. I will update with my designs, code, and ideas and would hope you will all do the same. This exercise will help explore the power and uses of the Arduino platform. Let us see who can come up with the best, cheapest, and most awesome design.
