Android movie studio

One of my favorite things about Googles Android Honeycomb as a random small time video editor is the included movie editor application, Movie Studio. While it is certainly not made for professional editing one could achieve some pretty good content with the right amount of time and patience, lots and lots of patience... My first encounter with the movie studio came while out with some friends, I had brought along my tablet to do some Angry Birds. After awhile we started doing crazy stuff and I pulled out my phone to record some videos. Using bluetooth I performed an agonizingly slow transfer over to my tablet and realized I had the app. I opened up and was honestly kind of confused at first. Movie Studio is by far one of the most confusing apps I have ever used. Eventually I got my clips imported and started working.

The first thing I realized is that there is no clipping tool so the only way to seperate different parts of video clips is to crop the file to the part you want and then if you want a different part from the same file you have to add it again and repeat the process. This alone might distract a lot of people from using the software (I almost quite right there). After awhile I could finally move on to adding effects. While you won't find top of the line animations and such you can use a few transitions, color effects, and titles. This was all pretty simple and the only complaint is the slightly long render time after each effect during which you can not perform any other tasks.

The Movie Studio is not for just video luckily as you can create wonderful slideshows of pictures. I never see the need for many effects on pictures so I preffered that editing. Again the biggest complaint is the render time. You have transition options again and picture specific effects like panning. What good is a slideshow though without some music? The great thing is you can add music or other audio files by way of a small sound track bar under where vids and pics go. If anyone up till now thought the editing options for video and photo was bad the music aint getting any better. You can add a track and control volume. That's about it. So far I have found no way to trim up audio or add more than one track, instead the audio just loops until the project ends.

I definitely do not recommend this as a way for professional editing to anyone who has another choice but I have enjoyed using it for short videos on occasion. I will embed one of them below for you to check out. While this is obviously not a tutorial, if even 5 people comment on this post I will make a tutorial on using the movie studio application to help any of you out. What do you think about this editing tool? Good idea or just crap? Leave your commnts down below and as always have a great day. Peace yall!?

  2. It is rather sad that the device intended to be a Flagship Honeycomb tab is also the one with some of the most and worst issues.

  5. I dont know what thes chaps are on about... I downloaded and installed this in my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 running Android 3.1... Its been absolutely lovely! Yes it is a bit slow but it works like a charm! Ive already created nifty 5 minute movies showing off quite a few of the movie studio software features. Way to go guys!!

  6. Well I'm glad it works for at least two tablets I'm aware of. Galaxy Tab and Acer Iconia. Anyone else have some horror or wonder stories to share about this?

  7. I am able to clip the start and end of video shot on a Lenovo Ideapad K1. Very clumsy, but I am able to export it back out of Movie Studio to a folder called "Movies" in the Gallery app. Only problem is that after clipping, the film exports without the native audio that I imported from Gallery. (i.e. Import a vid with sound to Movie Studio, clip ends, export back to Gallery but only video and no sound arrives back in Gallery.) Not talking about adding an audio track, but rather the sound that was captured by the mic when the video was shot. Anyone else having this problem?

  8. That is a very odd issue. I have never had a problem with audio but will look into it for you.

  9. Thanks Matthew. I also did a test where I added a music track, and it did export back to the Gallery app (minus the original mic-recorded audio). However, the added music track that plays properly in the Gallery app, is missing when I uploaded it to Youtube...the upload is "muted"...Go figure....

  10. Mathew, i am happy to see you and others are using the movie studio and commenting. I also had a nearly complete video die. The video would not play and i could not use any of the features. I ultimately had to delete it. After making two video clips i have realized the same limitations many of you are experiencing. The most irritating to me is that i cant seem to be able to import pictures from the gallery. The only way i can add pics or video into a project is if i take them from within the movie studio. Am i doing something wrong? Pease help! Thanks for any help on this issue. I woukd also like to edit video and audio clips.

  11. Alright so I've been playing around some more with the studio and so far it looks like on the Acer Iconia tab (my tablet) it works just fine. I have yet to incur any issues written here. This leads me to believe these are isolated issues which can certainly be fixed by Google. Whether or not an update will arrive is yet to be seen however it may be awhile. I unfortunately do not have any other devices to try this out on but if anyone would care to start attempting work-arounds? Lets try to get these bugs fixed.

  12. Hi so glad I found this page. I'm making my first slide show on studio but I can't figure out how to make it loop or play continuously? anyone else have this problem? Am I just missing something or is this not an option? Any help would be great.

  13. I have yet to find a way of continual looping objects and don't believe it to be an included feature. Someone else may have found a tucked away option but it seems unlikely.

  14. How do I pull vids from vidtrim or videocam illusion? I try and open videos through file expert and it says file expert closed, you will see notification when download is complete" What gives!? Want to take vids, crop them, then make movies but these three apps don't seem compatible. Any ideas?

  18. annoyingly you cannot remove audio on this though - I want to remove the audio from a video I recorded because there is a lot of hum from a fan that was blowing in, and dub an audio track over it.. I can put the audio track in but no way to remove the audio on the track.
